Born as Vera Ann Farmiga on August 6, 1973 in Clifton, New Jersey, she has carved a career for herself as an actress playing a wide range of characters. The Ukrainian origin Farmiga was raised in a closely knit community and studied at the Ukrainian Catholic School, was in the Ukrainian Girl Scouts, and also did Ukrainian folk dancing in the Catskills during the summes. In fact, Farmiga didn’t start learning English until she was 5 or 6.
After completing college, she found work in New York City theatrical productions. She later started working in the late 1990s. Apart from a supporting role in the year 1997 in a made for TV film Rose Hill, she debuted in her first series Roar in the same year. In the following year, Farmiga featured opposite Edward Burns and Robert De Niro in a crime drama 15 Minutes.
Farmiga regaled the audiences with her performance in Down to the Bone at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival. She worked with the iconic Martin Scorsese on The Departed (2006).
Farmiga worked in the horror film The Conjuring in 2013 which established her as an actress of the horror genre.
She was earlier married to actor Sebastian Roche and now lives on a farm in New York with her husband Renn Hawkey, and their two kids.
