Toni Braxton came from a family of singers. As the oldest of six children, she had a responsibility to set a good example. All of them lived in a strict, religious household, and the young star first performed in her local church’s choir. Together with their parents, the children toured the East Coast and sang at various church events.
When the hot singer was in her early twenties, she signed a record deal with Arista Records with her female siblings. They called themselves The Braxtons and only released one single as a group. Unfortunately, they were not successful commercially, and the record company dropped them soon after.
This early exposure led to Toni Braxton’s solo career, and she signed with LaFace Records in 1991. Her second studio album, Secrets, received similar success, hitting number two in the United States and peaking at number one in Netherland and Switzerland. It sold more than 15 million copies worldwide, making it her most successful release to date. She has released a total of nine studio albums and 34 singles, with overall sales of more than 68 million records globally.
Some of her most popular titles are You’re Makin’ Me High, Un-Break My Heart, and Give You My Heart. She has worked with other artists like R. Kelly, Babyface, Birdman, David Foster, and Il Divo.
Apart from her impressive singing career, Toni Braxton ventured into acting. She appeared in several films like Kingdom Come, The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure, and Faith Under Fire: The Antoinette Tuff Story. On television, she had guest appearances in Roc, Mad TV, and Kevin Hill.
