Ruth Negga is an Ethiopian-Irish actress who was born in Addis Ababa. She spent part of her childhood living in the country. When she was four she moved to Limerick, Ireland. But since 2006, she has been living in London. She attended the Samuel Beckett Centre at Trinity College, Dublin. She completed her graduating there and earned a BA in acting.

She was also seen alongside John Malkovich in the film Colour Me Kubrick (2005). She has done some prominent roles in television as well. She was part of shows like Criminal Justice and Love Is the Drug, which was an Irish series. In BBC Three’s series Personal Affairs, she played the main character of Doris “Sid” Siddiqi. She played the main lead in the series Love/Hate as well. In 2011, she played Dame Shirley Bassey in BBC’s production Shirley, which earned her an IFTA Award for Best Actress (Television).
The actress was also seen in the hit TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. She stared in the movie Loving in 2016. The movie premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival. She was praised highly for her performance, and was nominated for Academy Award for Best Actress, the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, and the BAFTA Rising Star Award.
