Born on 25 June, 1981, Sheridan Smith is an English actress and singer. She was born in Epworth, Lincolnshire. Her parents were Colin (1936-2016) and Marilyn Smith, and they used to perform as a country music couple named The Daltons. She learned dance at the Joyce Mason School of Dancing from a tender age. Later she attended South Axholme Community School, where she scored the highest possible grade in the GCSE performing arts.
Despite never having received any formal drama training, Smith became a member of the National Youth Music Theatre from 1995-2001. She played lead roles in various productions such as Bugsy Malone, Pendragon, and Into The Woods. She received higher education at the John Leggott College in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire.
Smith became famous by playing a number of characters on sitcoms such as her debut show The Royle Family (1999-2000), Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps (2001-2009), Gavin & Stacey (2008-2010), and Benidorm (2009). From the year 2009 to 2013, she was cast as Joey Ross in Jonathan Creek. She was critically acclaimed for playing starring roles in a number of TV dramas including Mrs. Biggs (2012), Cilla (2014), The C Word (2015), and The Moorside (2017). Her big screen credits include Tower Block, Quartet (both in 2012), and The Huntsman Winter’s War (2016).
Smith has featured in West End musicals such as Little Shop of Horrors (2007), Legally Blonde (2010), and Funny Girl (2016). She came out with her debut album titled Sheridan in the year 2017. Her next album A Northern Soul was released in 2018.
In her illustrious career Smith has won two Olivier Awards, a BAFTA award, a National Television Award and a BPG Award, and also two International Emmy Award nominations. As an honor to her services to drama, Smith was appointed as Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2015 New Year Honours.
