Born as Lisa Rani Ray on 4th April 1972, she is an Indian Canadian actress, model, TV host, philanthropist, and social activist. Lisa was born in Toronto, Canada to a Bengali Hindu father and a Polish mother. She was raised in the suburb of Etobicoke. She used to talk to her maternal grandmother in Polish and watched films of Federico Fellini and Satyajit Ray with her movie buff father. During her early years, she spent a bit of time in Calcutta.
She was a brilliant student, and finished the five years of high school in four, and attended three different high schools, Etobicoke Collegiate Institute, Richview Collegiate Institute and Silverthorn Collegiate Institute.
Ray’s first brush to fame was courtesy of an advertisement for Bombay Dyeing where she wore a high-cut black swimsuit during the 1990s opposite Karan Kapoor.
In the year 2005, she was cast in a Canadian film Water, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. She was cast alongside Sheetal Seth in romantic movies I Can’t Think Straight and The World Unseen in the year 2008.
Ray had debuted in the Indian cinema in the year 1994 via a Tamil film Nethaji co-starring Sarath Kumar where she had played a small role. In the year 2001, she featured in a Bollywood movie titled Kasoor alongside Aftab Shivdasani. In the year 2002, she was cast in a Telugu film Takkar Donga co-starring Mahesh Babu. On 16, November 2010, TLC India declared that it was going to make a 5-part series titled Oh My Gold featuring Ray. The series premiered in 2011. Oh My Gold was set against the backdrop of cultural yet contemporary India. The series discovered the beauty of various Indian cities and Ray played the role of the show’s host and a travel guide. In the year 2016, she was cast in Ram Gopal Varma’s biographical film Veerappan. She was recently seen in Anoop Ram Kapoor’s prime original web series, ‘Four More Shots Please’ in 2019.
