Stan and Mickey Gershon welcomed their baby girl Gina L. Gershon to the world on June 10, 1962. Gina’s artistic talent mostly comes from her mother, Mickey, who was an interior designer. The Brooklyn Nine-Nine actress was born and raised in Los Angeles, along with her older brother and sister.
Gina’s dream of being an actress started when she was only 14 years old. After high school, Gina moved to Boston to attend college at Emerson College. However, Gina decided that she wanted to move to New York, so she transferred to NYU and graduated in 1983 with a degree in Fine Arts major in Drama and Psychology/Philosophy.
Before Gina became an actress, she was first a Jews Harp player and a dancer. While she was in New York, Gina worked with David Mamet at the Square Professional Theatre School. She then worked with Harold Gaskin and Sandra Seacat at the Circle. While on theatre, Gina appeared in several theatrical performances, including the revival of Cabaret and Boeing-Boeing. And in 2010, she performed the character, Rosie Alvarez, on the restoration of Bye Bye Birdie.
After her success in theatre, Gina later decided she wants to try films. Her appearance in the movie, Pretty in Pink, in 1986, was her first break as a movie actress. Her success continued as she portrayed more lead roles on Sweet Revenge, premiered in 1987, and Cocktail, which premiered in 1988. Aside from being on film, Gina also ventured in TV acting. She had a recurring role in the TV sitcom, Melrose Place, in 1993.
In 1997, Gershon appeared in the box-office hit Face/Off with John Travolta and Nicholas Cage. She also portrayed a lead role with Matthew McConaughey in Killer Joe in 2011.
Movies were Gina’s main work; however, she also wanted to try TV sitcoms. She started appearing on TV in the series, Twilight Zone in 1987. After her short appearance, she had other brief appearances for other TV series. Her most famous and current role was on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. She portrayed the character of Lt. Melanie Hawkins. Now, that is way hotter than revealing boobs and ass.
Gina is a genius in Jews Harp, aside from being a successful actress. She is also the author of the book, Camp Creepy Time and the book, In Search of Cleo: How I Found My Pussy and Lost My Mind.
