Born as Cybill Lynne Shepherd on February 18, 1950, she is an American actress, singer and former model. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee. Cybill was named blending the names of her grandfather Cy and her father Bill. Shepherd won the 1966 “Miss Teenage Memphis” contest and the 1968 “Model of the Year” contest when she was 18. She was ranked as a fashion star in the 1960s and did fashion modelling throughout her high school and later as well.
Shepherd’s autobiography mentions that a 1970 Glamour magazine cover was noted by movie director Peter Bogdanovich. His wife of the time, Polly Platt, stated that when she first saw the cover in a check-out line in a Ralphs grocery outlet in Southern California, she stated “That’s Jacy”, referring to a role that Bogdanovich was casting. Shepherd played the role in The Last Picture Show (1971). She started an intimate relationship with Bogdanovich and also her co-star Jeff Bridges, screenwriter Larry McMurtry and the location manager Frank Marshall.
Shepherd is renowned for playing the roles of Jacy in The Last Picture Show (1971), Kelly in The Heartbreak Kid (1972), Betsy in Taxi Driver (1976), Maddie Hayes on Moonlighting (1985-1989), Cybill Sheridan on Cybill (1995-1998), Phyllis Kroll on The L Word (2007-2009), Madeleine Spencer on Psych (2008-2013), Cassie in a TV film The Client List (2010) and Linette Montgomery on The Client List (2012-2013).
Shepherd mentioned in her autobiography that she had called her mother in 1978, crying and unhappy with the condition of her life and career. Her mother replied, “Cybill come home.” Shepherd went back to Memphis, where she met and started romancing David M. Ford, a local auto parts seller and nightclub entertainer. She became pregnant and they married that year. Their daughter, Clementine Ford was born in 1979, and they divorced in 1982.
In 1987, chiropractor Bruce Oppenheim impregnated Shepherd and they married. She gave birth to twins Cyrus Zachariah and Molly Ariel Shepherd-Oppenheim during the season four of Moonlighting. They divorced in 1990.
In June 2012, Shepherd got engaged to Andrei Nikolajevic. However, the engagement had been called off by the year 2015.
