Ed and Carla Ballerini welcomed their only child, Kelsea Nicole Ballerini, on September 12, 1993, in their hometown in Knoxville. Before Kelsea got to love singing, she was a dancer as early as three years old. However, she stopped taking dance lessons when she was 13 years old. While being involved in dancing, Kelsea was also active at church, singing in the choir. Kelsea attended college at Lipscomb University before she decided to pursue her singing career.
Kelsea was only 19 years old when she first signed a singing contract with Black River Entertainment. She first released the single, ‘Love Me Like You Mean It’ as her debut before she released her EP. Then, in May 2015, Kelsea released her first album entitled ‘The First Time’. Her single ‘Love Me Like You Mean It’ topped the Billboard Country Airplay, making her the second artist to top the country charts next to Carrie Underwood.
The single “Peter Pan” was Kelsea’s third single, and after its release in March 2016, it immediately topped in both Country Airplay and Hot Country Songs charts.
In 2017, Forbes’ “30 Under 30” music list placed Kelsea in the top 2. In the same year, she released her second album, Unapologetically, with her first single, Legends. Both made a successful release, even topping the charts again. It also got a nomination at the Grammys. She even
Kelsea became the fifth judge of The Voice in 2018. She coached the contestants who were in The Comeback Stage. She also released the song, We Were Like, in the same year.
In the middle of 2019, Kelsea announced that her third album is almost complete and released the first single in September 2019. Her first single, ‘Homecoming Queen’, came at number 22 in the Country Airplay charts. Then, in January 2020, she announced that her self-titled album, Kelsea, is ready, and its release will be in March 2020.
Although Kelsea Ballerini is very busy with her career, she still felt the need to fight for gender equality in the country radio. In a twitter post, Kelsea called the attention of Michigan radio station, 98 KCQ, for putting male artists first before the female counterparts.
