You Need to Try This Hot, New Party Trend: Gold Eyebrows

Gold-Eyebrows

Don’t get us wrong — we love the classic holiday red lip, but sometimes, we want to stand out. So when we saw the metallic eyebrows from Dior’s Spring 2014 show, we knew it was the true moment to embrace beauty bravery and test out the look ourselves. We enlisted the help of makeup artist Katherine Dorn at Pierre Michel Salon to bring this runway look to real life on POPSUGAR editorial assistant Aemilia Madden. The finished look is edgy and glamorous without being over the top . . . and above all, easy! (Dare we say these brows are more fabulous than Cara Delevingne’s?) Read on to learn how to get this brow-raising look at home.

The Inspiration

Liu Wen glimmered on the Spring 2014 Dior runway. We softened it a bit for a party-ready look that won’t freak out your friends.

Step 1: Foundation

Apply foundation to your entire face, including your lips and eyelids. This skin-evening step doubles as a primer to prevent creasing.

Step 2: Subtle Eye Makeup

While we’re big fans of a smoky eye, now is not the time to show off your shadow prowess. Buff a soft pearly shadow similar to your skin tone over the entire lid up to the brow bone. We like Urban Decay Eye Shadow in Virgin ($18). Finish your lid look with mascara, wiggling as you apply to coat the whole lash and prevent clumping. But don’t worry if your lashes start to stick. “If you get any clumps, go over it with a clean mascara wand,” suggests Dorn. She used Face Stockholm Lash Lift ($32), applying extra mascara to the top of Aemilia’s fringe for superdark lashes.

Step 3: Blinged-Out Base Coat

Need to brush up on your brow skills? Read our guide to shaping your arches first. When you’re ready, using a small, flat-edged brush like this one from Sephora ($25), begin filling in your brows with a metallic cream — Dorn used the gold shade from Make Up For Ever’s 12 Flash Color Case ($99). Pack on several layers of pigment to get a lot of sparkle.

Step 4: Sparkling Arches

Instead of loose glitter (which can be an accident waiting to happen), add extra sparkle using a metallic liquid liner. “You can just paint it on. . . . it offers more control than loose glitter,” said Dorn, who used NYX Cosmetics Liquid Crystal Liner in Crystal Silk ($5). If you’re concerned about smudging, don’t be — it dries hard over the brows! — but you can always spritz yourself with fixing spray like Urban Decay’s All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray ($30) for extra insurance.

Step 5: Light Contour and Blush

Go over the hollows of your cheeks lightly with a matte bronzer like Tarte’s Matte in Park Avenue Princess ($30) to define your cheekbones, then blend a blush similar to your natural flush on the apples of your cheeks up to the temples. We like MAC Cosmetics Powder Blush in Peaches ($22).

Step 6: Add a Bold Lip

Dorn avoided an overly Christmassy look by trading classic red for a high-drama berry pout. After filling and lining lips with a coordinating liner (“lip liner locks down the look”), she applied Face Stockholm Lipstick in Mantra ($22).

Step 7: Highlight

Finish off with an extra dose of glam! Using your fingertips, apply highlighter to your cheekbones, brow bones, the bridge of your nose, and your Cupid’s bow. Dorn used Face Stockholm Highlighter in Radiance ($25).
