De Laurentiis attended the Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and aspired to become a pastry chef. After her return to the US, she started working as a professional chef in various Los Angeles restaurants, including the Wolfgang Puck owned Spago. She then went on to work as a food-stylist and was contacted by the Food Network after styling a piece in Food & Wine magazine in 2002. This led to the premiere of her Food Network daytime cooking show, Everyday Italian on April 5, 2003. De Laurentiis started hosting Behind the Bash in October 2006. This program focused on the catering process that goes into mega event extravaganzas such as the Grammy Awards. In January 2007, another De Laurentiis hosted show Giada’s Weekend Getaways premiered on Food Network. This show features De Laurentiis who travels to a featured location such as Seattle, South Beach, San Francisco, Napa, and Jackson Hole, Wyoming to visit he favorite local culinary destinations.
She hosts Giada at Home for Food Network. She also regularly contributes and guest co-hosts the NBC show Today. De Laurentiis is the founder of the catering company GDL Foods. She won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lifestyle Host, the Gracie Award for Best TV Host and in the year 2012, she was inducted into the Culinary Hall of Fame.
On May 25, 2003, De Laurentiis married fashion designer Todd Thompson. Their only child, Jade Marie De Laurentiis-Thompson was born on March 29, 2008. De Laurentiis announced on her website on December 29, 2014 that she had separated with Todd and their divorce was finalized on September 3, 2015. Since November 2015, she has been in a relationship with TV producer Shane Farley.
