Born as Loni Kaye Anderson on August 5, 1945 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, she is an American actress. She was raised in suburban Roseville, Minnesota. She was a senior at Alexander Ramsey Senior High School in Roseville, when she was voted as the Valentine Queen of the Valentine’s Day Winter Formal of 1963. She studied at the University of Minnesota. As she has mentioned in her autobiography, My Life In High Heels, her father planned to name her “Leiloni” but, later he was startled to realize that it might be twisted into “Lay Loni” when she enters her teenage, so he just named her Loni.
She debuted as an actress with a small role in the movie Nevada Smith (1966), starring Steve McQueen. Later on, she was without any work for nearly a decade before landing guest roles on episodic TV series in the mid- 1970s. Her most renowned performance came as the sultry receptionist Jennifer Marlowe in the sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati (1978-1982). The creator of the series, Hugh Wison later stated that Anderson bagged the role because her body looked similar to Jayne Mansfield and she had the innocent sexuality of Marilyn Monroe. She also won three Golden Globe Awards and two Emmy Award nominations for this performance.
Anderson got married four times and her first three marriages were to Bruce Hasselberg (1964-1966), Ross Bickell (1973-1981) and actor and her co-star from Stroker Ace (1983), Burt Reynolds (1988-1993). On May 17, 2008, Anderson married musician Bob Flick, a founding member of the folk band The Brothers Four. They had first met each other at a movie premiere in Minneapolis in 1963.
Anderson has a daughter named Deidre Hoffman (fathered by Hasselberg), who was a school administrator in California and a son, Quinton Anderson Reynolds (born on August 31, 1988), who was adopted by her and Reynolds. She published her autobiography ‘My Life in High Heels’ in the year 1997.
She grew up with parents of the World War II generation, and both of them were smokers, thus, Anderson was witness to the impact of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a lung problem caused generally by smoking. She became a spokesperson about COPD in 1999 and it was during a visit to Seattle for a COPD awareness campaign that she once again acquainted with her future husband Bob Flick.
