Born as Sarah Hayley Orrantia on February 21, 1994 in Arlington, Texas, she is an American actress, singer and songwriter. She was raised in the nearby Grand Prairie and Highland Village. She has English, French, Irish and Mexican roots. She attended public school from elementary to middle school in her hometown of Highland Village. Subsequently, she attended Marcus High School in the nearby Flower Mound until her junior year, when she started getting homeschooled so that she could pursue her acting and music training. During her high school, she joined the musical theatre program and got her first acting experience.
Orrantia first sang at the age of nine and started professional training when she was 12-years-old. She wrote her first song at the age of 13, and by the time she was 14, she had recorded her first EP of cover songs. In the same year, she started writing with songwriter Jamie Houston who was at that time renowned for writing hits for three Disney High School Musical films. Orrantia recorded the vocals to Houston’s “Magic of a Friend” which was on the soundtrack of Disney’s Tinkerbell and The Lost Treasure in the year 2010. Later in the year, Orrantia sang background vocals for Demi Lovato on Disney’s Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam soundtrack, and background vocals for Miley Cyrus on Disney’s Hannah Montana Forever soundtrack.
She landed her first acting opportunity when she was 17, for a Sprint commercial I 2011. She was then cast in the independent film Cooper and the Castle Hills Gang, which premiered at the Dallas International Film Festival. During the summer of 2011, she gave auditions for the first season of The X Factor. She was selected on the basis of a YouTube video submission. Although, she originally auditioned as a solo artist, during “Hollywood Week” she and three other female singers were put into a group for the remainder of the auditions, and were later eliminated during the fifth week of the live shows.
Since the year 2013, she has been playing the role of Erica Goldberg on the ABC comedy series The Goldbergs. After having cast Orrantia and finding out about her singing talent, the series creator Adam F. Goldberg has written a number of episodes where Erica sings and plans to keep highlighting her singing prowess in future episodes. She also played a leading role in the drama movie God’s Not Dead 2, released on April 1, 2016. In the year 2016, Orrantia released a single titled “Strong, Sweet and Southern.” Its music video had garnered over 200,000 views as of May, 2018.
Since 2007, Orrantia has served as an ambassador for the Texas Music Project, which creates awareness and raises funds for music education in public schools.
