Powell Potts and Dorothy Harris welcomed Anne Hampton Potts into the world on October 28, 1952. Although she was born in Tennessee, she, along with her two older sisters, grew up in Kentucky.
Potts graduated college at the Stephens College with a degree in theatre arts. She then had her debut as an actress when she was 26 years old. Potts’ role in the comedy film, Corvette Summer in 1978 earned her a Golden Globe nomination, making her talents known in the movie industry.
In 1982, Annie finally won her first award in the Genie Awards for her role in the movie, Heartaches. She won the Best Performance by a Foreign Actress. But before her fame, Potts starred in a short-lived comedy sitcom called Goodtime Girls in 1980.
Annie then got a role as Janine Melnitz in the fantasy film series, Ghostbusters in 1984. In the same year, she appeared in the movie, Crimes of Passion, as Amy Grady. Her role in the film as a daring young woman accentuated her bikini body. Then, her big break came in when Potts landed a character for a television sitcom, Designing Women in 1986. Her busy schedule started after she got the project, earning her more movie engagements like Pretty in Pink and Jumpin’ Jack Flash.
Annie’s role as Mary Jo Shively in Designing Women continued until 1993. The sitcom ended with a total of 163 episodes and seven seasons. And while Annie was doing the television sitcom, she still had other television appearances as well as movie roles. In 1987, Annie appeared in an episode of Amazing Stories. She also reprised her role as Janine Melnitz in Ghostbusters II in 1989.
After her role ended in Designing Women, Annie had another TV series lined up. She became Dana Palladino in the CBS TV sitcom, Love & War, from 1993 to 1995. Although only short-lived, the sitcom gave Annie another chance to show off her talent in acting. She even got a nomination at the Emmy’s for her role.
Annie Potts’ TV appearances as she guest-starred in several sitcoms like Dangerous Minds, Johnny Bravo, Two and a Half Men, and Animal Practice. She also had a cameo role in the 2016 Ghostbusters movie. Also, Annie became the voice of Bo Peep in the movie series, Toy Story.
Currently, she is a main cast at the comedy series, Young Sheldon. Although her role as Sheldon’s meemaw, her fans still see her outstanding talent, something that is sexier than revealing boobs or ass.
