Born as Tamilyn Naomi Tomita on January 27, 1966, she is a Japanese-American actress and singer. Tomita was born in Okinawa, Japan to Shiro and Asako Tomita. Her father was a Japanese-American who had been held captive at Manzanar, California during the World War II and later became a police officer with Los Angeles police department and was instrumental in setting up the first Asian Task Force in the department. Tomita graduated from the Granada Hills High School in San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. Before she became an actress, Tomita had won the title of Queen at the Nisel Week Pageant in LA in 1984 and Miss Nikkel International in 1985. In the year 1987, she debuted as a Japanese language singer on Polydor. She released a single and then an album.

Tomita later appeared in the role of Ming Li on NBC’s daytime soap opera Santa Barbara from May to September 1988. In the year 2008, she made a comeback to daytime soaps with a recurring role on ABC’s General Hospital. In the year 2012, she played another recurring role on NBC’s Days of Our Lives.

From 1996 to 1997, Tomita was a regular cast member in a UPN drama show The Burning Zone and also in the pilot movie for Babylon 5.
