Born as Sofia Margareta Gotschenhjelm Helin on 25 April 1972, she is a Swedish actress. Sofia Helin was born in Hovsta, Orebro, Narke. Her father worked as a salesman and her mother was a nurse. She was ten days old when her grandmother and her six year old brother met a car accident and her brother was killed. She graduated with a degree in philosophy from Lund University. From 1994-1996, she went to Calle Flygares Theatre school and graduated from the Stockholm Theatre Academy in the year 2001. She was raised in Linghem outside Linkoping, but, in the year 2015, she was a resident of Stockholm.
She has done films like At Point Blank (2003) where she played the lead role of Chief Inspector Klara. In the year 2004, she played the leading role of Mia in Masjaviar, and was nominated for a Guldbagge award. In the year 2007, she appeared as the leading character of Cecilia Algottsdotter in Arn, an adaptation of Jan Guilou’s The Knight Templar about Arn Magnusson. She has also featured in a Swedish animated movie Metropia (2009).
Since the year 2012, she has been known outside Sweden due to a successful crime drama show The Bridge where she played the role of Saga Noren, a homicidal detective from Malmo. In United Kingdom the series had over a million viewers per episode and she has been named as a role model for women with Asperger syndrome. She also said that she would appear in her fourth series. The season four started airing in Sweden and Denmark on 1st January 2018 and in the UK in May 2018.
In the year 2015, she was seen in a Danish science fiction movie called Fang Rung and acted in a British/German TV show directed by Oliver Hirschbeigel which was filmed in Prague and is about the divided Berlin of the 1970s and is titled as The Same Sky in whih she spoke in German and English languages both.
