Born as Rachel Anne McAdams on November 17, 1978 in London, Ontario, Canada, she is an actress. She has English, Welsh, Irish and Scottish origins. Rachel started acting during her teenage and by the time she was 13, she started performing in Shakespearean productions in summer theater camp. She further graduated with honors with a BPA degree in Theater from York University. After she debuted in an episode of the famous Jett Jackson from Disney in 1998, she co-starred in a Canadian TV series Slings and Arrows (2003), a comedy drama about the trials and difficulties of a Shakespearean theater group and she won a Gemini award for her work in 2003.

She also played starring roles in The Lucky Ones (2008), State of Play (2009), The Time Traveler’s Wife (2009) and she appeared opposite Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law in Guy Ritchie’s film Sherlock Holmes (2009). She played the role of a producer of a failing morning TV show in Morning Glory (2010), Owen Wilson’s fiancée in Woody Allen film Midnight in Paris (2011) and The Vow (2012) opposite Channing Tatum. She worked with Ben Affleck in To The Wonder (2012) and alongside Noomi Rapace in Passion (2012).
In the year 2005, she received ShoWest’s Supporting Actress of the Year award and also the Breakthrough Actress of the Year Award at the Hollywood Film Awards. In the year 2009, she was awarded with ShoWest’s Female Star of the Year honor.
As reported in 2011, she had been dating her Midnight in Paris (2011) co-star Michael Sheen.
