Born on 11 February 1991, Shanina Shaik is an Australian model. Her modelling career started at the age of 8 for Myer and she appeared in a TV commercial for Hyundai, but, she stopped modelling at the start of her high school. She was accepted into an accelerated program, graduating a year sooner than her classmates. She was fifteen when she entered the Girlfriend Model Competition. Although agents were interested in her, she wasn’t old enough o move to Sydney so she later participated on the Australian reality TV show Make Me A Supermodel, and she finished as a runner-up. She was raised as a Muslim.
The Autumn/Winter 2009 season was her debut season and she walked more than 8 shows in New York City. She opened Yeohlee and walked for designers like Shipley & Halmos, Abaete, Mara Hoffman, Lorick, Project Runway, Trovata and Richie Rich. In her second season she walked for Betsey Johnson, Catherine Malandrino, Gerlan Jeans, Nary Maniyong, Rachel Antonoff, and Susan Woo. The Autumn/Winter 20100 season saw Shanina walk for Bebe by Kardashian, Emu Australia, Lodice and Project Runway.
Shaik has appeared in catalogues for Macy’s, Alloy, Avon, Intermix, Urban Outfitters, Lovable, Burdo Style, Spiegel, Free People, Bloomingdales, J.C. Penney, Seafolly, Otto, Shop Bop, Sasha Samuel and Ann Taylor.
Soon after she signed with New York Model Management, Shaik appeared in editorials for Seventeen Magazine and Men’s Health. In the year 2010, Shaik walked in the Spring/Summer 2011 catwalk show for Project Runway and L.A.M.B. She moved to NEXT Model Management in 2011, and from Chadwick Model Management to Chic Model Management. She was featured in a campaign for Italian lingerie brand Intimissimi and Australian shoe brand RMK.
Her breakthrough was when she was cast to walk during the 2011 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, becoming the sixth Australian girl alogn with Miranda Kerr, Jessica Hart, Elyse Taylor, Sarah Stephens and Abbey Lee Kershaw to appear in the show. Shaik has also walked for Chanel’s Pre-Fall 2012 collection at the Grand Palais in Paris.
In 2012, Shaik did print-work for Victoria’s Secret and Bonds. During the Fall/Winter 2012 Fashion Week, she opened Jason Wu and walked for Ruffian, Kevork Kiledjian, Charlotte Ronson, Nanette Lepore, Diesel, Oscar de la Renta, Tom Ford etc.
Shaik was featured on the covers of Cosmopolitan, Cleo, Vogue India and Harper’s Bazaar Singapore, Arabia, Vietnam and Australia.
