Katharine Juliet Ross was conceived on January 29, 1940, in Hollywood, California, to Katharine W. (Corridor) and Dudley T. Ross. Her dad, who likewise worked for the Associated Press, was away in the US Navy when she was born. His naval force vocation moved the family around to Virginia, at that point Palo Alto, lastly to Walnut Creek, outside of San Francisco, where Ross grew up.
