Erika Jane Christensen was born in Washington in 1982. Her family came from a rich ancestry of Icelandic, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Welsh, and Irish descent. Her parents raised her with the beliefs and practices of the Church of Scientology.
At age 12, the young Christensen wanted to become an actress. Her determination led to her first acting debut at a McDonald’s commercial.
Erika got her big break in the 1997 film, Leave It to Beaver as Karen. She later took a series of guest spots on television.
Christensen also appeared in several TV series in the late 90s, such as Frasier, The Practice, and Touch by an Angel. Her performance in the drama series Nothing Sacred garnered her first acting nomination at the Youngstar Awards.

Aside from being an actress, Christensen is also a singer. In 2003, she recorded songs for the modern adaptation of Wuthering Heights, where she played a leading role. She also worked with John Stevens for the song “Let’s Fall in Love.”
In 2010, she became a regular cast member in TV drama series Parenthood as Julia Braverman-Graham. She later won the Outstanding Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Drama Series at the 2014 Gracie Award. The TV drama went on for almost five years.
From 2007 to 2016, Christensen acted for various film genres. From comedy-drama film Gardener of Eden, she also tried horror films, such as The Tortured and Riding the Bullet. She also played the role of a single mother for a crime drama series in the Wicked City.
Her most recent performance is in a Christian drama film, The Case for Christ as Leslie Strobel. She also worked alongside Kyra Sedgwick in the drama series Ten Days in the Valley.
In 2015, Christensen tied the knot with cycling racer, Cole Maness. The couple has two daughters, Polly and Shane.
