Shriya Saran Bhatnagar grew up in Haridwar. Her father worked at a power company, while her mother was a chemistry teacher. She grew up in one of the largest cities in India. As a young girl, she learned the Indian folk dance from her mother.
Saran majored in literature in a women’s college in Delhi. She joined several dance teams in college, where she would insert social problems in her dance routines.
