Born on May 1, 1993 in a Punjabi family in Delhi, India, Radhika Madan is an Indian film and television actress. She attended Delhi Public School at Mathura Road, New Delhi and did her graduation from Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi. She was in the 8th standard when she started dancing. She has received training in Jazz, Hip-Hop, Ballet and other dance styles. She has even worked as a dance instructor. Besides dancing she has also played cricket and was a tomboy during her childhood.
Madan started her acting career by appearing in the daily soap Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi which had a one and a half year run on Colors TV. She later appeared in the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (Season Eight).
After she worked on television, Madan debuted on the big screen with the Vishal Bhardwaj’s comedy drama Pataakha alongside Sanya Malhotra. The film’s story is based on two sisters in Rajasthan who are always at loggerheads with each other. The story was inspired by the wives of the writer Charan Singh Pathik’s brothers. Madan and Malhotra met the actual women to learn the dialect and the nuances related to the characters. They even stayed in Ronsi village near Jaipur and learned the Rajasthani dialect, milking buffaloes, thatching roofs, plastering the walls with dung and walking for long distances balancing matkas full of water on their head and around their waist. Not only that, they also had to put on 10 kgs weight.
Later Madan appeared in Vasan Bala’s action comedy film Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota. The film premiered in the Midnight Madness section of the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, where it won the People’s Choice Award: Midnight Madness. The movie also got screened at the 2018 MAMI Film Festival where it was given standing ovation. Madam stated that she was auditioning for Laila Majnu (2018) when she came to know about Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota and decided to opt for the latter because of its “uniqueness.” She has done all the stunts herself and watched a number of classic action films to get acquainted with the genre. She also got injured and received bruises while undergoing the physical training. She also followed a strict diet and a regular exercise regime. According to Pradeep Menon of Firstpost, she is a “delight as Supri” and observed that Madan “manages to make it work by sheer will and talent” despite the character having an “inconsistent treatment.” He also said that she “sparkles in the action sequences.”
