Born on 10 March 1976 in Tyre, South Governorate, Lebanon, she is a Lebanese-Egyptian singer and actress. Her father is a Lebanese man and she has an Egyptian mother. Wehbe has released five studio albums and debuted as an actress in the 2008 Pepsi produced film Sea of Stars. In the year 2006, People Magazine placed Wehbe on the list of 50 Most Beautiful People. She won the title of Miss South Lebanon when she was sixteen and ended as a runner up at the Miss Lebanon pageant. However, her title was revoked after it was found out that she had violated the rules as she had been married and had a child.
Wehbe became famous courtesy of her studio album Baddi Aech (“I Want To Live” in English), in early 2005, after the success of lead single “Ya Hayat Albi.” The album was released in the wake of the assassination of Lebanese politician Rafik Hariri, and its title single is about “freedom considered to be among the most basic of human rights.” Her next single “Aana Haifa”, (I Am Haifa in English) is her biggest hit to date. In 2006, she released a song “Bus-al-Wawa” (“Kiss the Booboo” in English), and the song was later used in a Pepsi commercial. It was also voted as the Song of the Year in 2006 by Radio Scope and Sawl Al Musika. Wehbe starred in a Pepsi produced film Sea of Stars that released in early 2008, along with Carole Samaha, Ahmad el Sherif, Brigitte Yaghi, Wael Kfoury and Ruwaida al-Mahrooqi. In the 1990s, Wehbe got married to her cousin Nasr Fayyad at the age of eighteen and travelled with him to Nigeria where he used to work. During her pregnancy, she came back to Lebanon and separated from Fayyad.
On June 25, 2007, Wehbe survived an accident during the shooting of a music video for the song “Hasa Ma Bena” in Lebanon. The video was to feature a single engine airplane chasing her as she drove a car. However, the airplane mistakenly hit the car and smashed the front windshield of the vehicle being driven by her. Despite the dangerous accident, she survived with just minor cuts and bruises.
Wehbe married an Egyptian businessman Ahmed Abou Hashima on April 24, 2009 in Beirut. The wedding guests’ list included singer Anastacia, Carmen Electra, Sean Combs, Googoosh, Nawal Al Zoghbi, Najwa Karam, Ragheb Alama and Sherine. Wehbe and Ahmed Abou Hashima separated in November 2012.
