Born on 1 September 1980, in Southend-on-Sea, Lara Pulver is an English actress. Her father comes from a Jewish family and her mother adopted Judaism. They separated when Lara was eleven years of age. Pulver attended the National Youth Music Theatre between 1994 and 1998, and also The Liz Burville Dance Centre in Bexley. In the year 1997, she started studying at the Doreen Bird College of Performing Arts, and graduated in 2000. She has gone on to work as an actress, singer and dancer in West End musicals.
Pulver received a nomination for the 2008 Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical for playing Lucille Frank in a West End production of the musical Parade at the Donmar Warehouse. She played the same role in the Los Angeles production at the mark Taper Forum opposite T.R. Knight.
Pulver recorded a song for the CD Act One – Songs from the Musicals of Alexander S. Bermange in 2008. Pulver was cast as Isabella, the sister of Guys of Gisbourne in BBC’s Robin Hood in 2009. In 2010, she joined the cast of the season three of HBO’s True Blood where she played Claudine Crane, the fairy godmother of Sookie Stackhouse.
Pulver played the role of Irene Adler in “A Scandal in Belgravia”, the opening episode of the second series of Sherlock. In 2012, she was cast on Da Vinci’s Demons as the “seductively and politically-minded” Clarice Orsini, a series regular role of Lorenzo Medici’s wife. In 2014, Pulver appeared as Louise in a revival of Gypsy at the Chichester Festival Theatre. The production moved to the West End in April 2015. She won the 2016 Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for the role which actually happens to be the titular character.
In the year 2003, Pulver met American actor Josh Dallas during the time he was in the United Kingdom to study at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. They were married over Christmas 2007 in a 16th Century barn in Devon. They honeymooned in Maldives and their divorce was confirmed in an interview on Bob Rivers’ radio show on 2 December 2011.
Pulver started dating actor Raza Jaffrey in the year 2012 and they got married on 27 December 2014. They had a child in 2017.
