Born as Ashleigh Cummings on 11 November 1992 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, she is an Australian actress. At the time of her birth, her parents lived and worked in Saudi Arabia. She later moved to Australia with her family at the age of 12. From the age of 2, Cummings had trained as a ballet dancer. She was 14 years old when she joined the Brent Street School of Performing Arts, where she learned dance and acting. Cummings then attended the Wenona School in North Sydney where she graduated from in 2010. She has also attended the film and television school Screenwise. Cummings studied philosophy at university, in between her acting gigs.
Cummings first appeared as a dancer in the Darren Ashton production Razzle Dazzle: A Journey into Dance. In March 2012, Cummings was announced to have been cast as Debbie Vickers in the TV version of the Puberty Blues. Cummings read the novel before her audition and she disclosed that she was surprised at the content. Cummings confided to Yahoo!7’s Darren Cartwright, “In terms of the sexual nature of it, I wasn’t aware of a lot of that and I’ve learnt so much doing this film.”
Cummings became famous for playing the role of Robyn Mathers in Tomorrow: When The War Began. The movie was based on a book bearing the same title. Cummings was nominated for Best Young Actor at the 2010 Australian Film Institute Awards. Cummings is also famous for playing the role of Dorothy Williams in ABC’s Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and also for playing Debbie Vickers in Puberty Blues.
