Born on April 11, 1981, Alessandra Ambrosio is among the various Brazilian models to make it big on the global scene during the late 1990s. She was born in a small town of Erexim in Southern Brazil. Her parents owned a petrol station. Ambrosio was a tall teenager with long legs and she became passionate about the world of modelling at an early age. She enrolled in modelling classes when she was only 12.
In the year 1996, the drop dead gorgeous girl participated in Elite Model Agency’s Look Of The Year Competition and despite not wining it, she soon landed a contract. After getting featured on the Brazil Elle magazine’s cover, she did ad campaigns for Guess denim, the brand that had launched the careers of Anna Nicole Smith and Laetitia Casta.
The supermodel Tyra Banks called her as “the future of the modelling world.” Alessandra has been in great demand among the major fashion brands such as Revlon, Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren and has also appeared on the famous Pirelli Calendar. However, Ambrosio’s best work was with the American lingerie brand Victoria’s Secret. She was placed alongside fellow girls from Brazil, Adriana Lima, Gisele Bundchen and Izabel Goulart for the lingerie major.
This bunch of elite girls who had brought sexiness back into the world of fashion courtesy of their curvy bodies and exotic beauty, have been close friends since they left Brazil and landed in US. Alessandra mentioned about the days when she shared a New York apartment with her lawyer sister Aline, “I have known those girls since we were 15.”
“When I first came to New York, Gisele lent me her apartment for two weeks,” she recalled, and added “I didn’t know any English so Adriana helped me translate.”
She is now a super star on the catwalk and she mentions skydiving, surfing, volleyball and snowboarding as her hobbies. She might even follow the example set by Gisele by making a career as movie actress. She has already appeared in a cameo in the film Casino Royale (2007).
