Born on January 21, 1969 in Tahiti, Karina Lombard is a French-American actress and singer. She is the youngest of five children and her older siblings are named Helene, Ines, Charles and Denise. Her mother Nupuree Lightfoot is a Lakota member and medicine woman. Her father, Henri Lombard has Swiss-Russian and Italian descent. Karina spent her childhood all over Europe including some time in Spain with her father and siblings. She had Spanish as her first language. Lombard said “I was in and out of Switzerland. We moved around a lot, but, I did most of my schooling in Switzerland.”
Lombard attended a number of boarding schools and is fluent in Spanish, English, Italian, French and German. She relocated to New York City when she was 18 and started a career in modelling and acting. Lombard’s big modelling break came courtesy of a Calvin Klein photo shoot with a Native American theme. Among the photographs was put on a billboard. She also got featured as a model in Elle and Vogue. She studied acting during her time in New York City, where she also got vital stage experience. She studied in Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and the Actors Studio, and performed also of New York City’s Gallery Theatre and the Neighborhood Playhouse. Lombard first acted in a film in the role of a princess in L’ile (The Island). Her first major role was as Antoinette Cosway, a Jamaican heiress, in Wide Sargasso Sea (1993) which is based on a Jean Rhys novel bearing the same title. In the same year, she played a supporting role in The Firm. She was also cast in the 1994 movie Legends of the Fall which is based on a Jim Harrison novel. She appeared alongside Bruce Willis in Last Man Standing in 1996.
In the 2000s, Lombard entered the world of television and appeared in The 4400 and on the season one of The L Word, as restaurateur Marina Ferrer. She also played the recurring role of Genevieve on FX’s Rescue Me. In November 2016, Lombard played the role of Shawnee chief Norhelema in an episode titled “Stranded” on the NBC TV series Timeless.
